Okay, after watching BOTH 2 hour specials of Black in America. What did I learn?

#1. That if you are light skinned you do better than if you are dark skinned.

#2. That if you have a white wife/husband you may be considered a sellout but what a small price to pay for all the material gains you will acquire.

#3. That if you aspire to be a rapper/singer/hoopster you will be doomed cause that what all blacks are aspiring to do.

#4. That the majority of black men aren't fathers because they didn't have fathers. A major by-product of slavery.-

#5. That black women hold no responsibility in the downfall of the black family. (if they do, it sure wasn't shown in this documentary. Actually I seen that "bad attitude" be encouraged.

#6. That going to school for young black men is considered "white" and perceived as "uncool". But then when you do get an education companies will hire a white felon with a no high school diploma before they hire a black non felon with a degree.

#7. That CNN had no problem making a ton of advertising dollars showing all the problems of black folks. ($cha-ching$) They said it was 2 hours but about an hour was spent watching the little cute black kid give Mcdonald french fries to the little African girl.

#8. That blacks with last names with alot of letters after them are better at telling me about myself then me.

#9. That showing us what's wrong (crime, drug abuse, HIV etc...) is more important then showing us what to do about it.

#10. That if it's white.....it's right. In other words, do things like WE whites do it and you wouldn't be having such a hard time.
Like no whites are ever illiterate, drug offenders or deadbeat dads...Yeah, it's just us black folks. You'll never see WHITE IN AMERICA.

Furthermore, I'd like to add that all these negative stories on being black in America is dangerous without offering real solutions to the problems.
It negatively affects black moral, black self-esteem and gives no hope to the young black teenager growing up in all this mess.

It's like were telling blacks to DO BETTER, DO BETTER, DO BETTER. Without giving game on how to do so. It takes more than education obviously. Ask the black men in the special who had degrees but no job.

See, black men just need a new hustle. Drug dealing played out, being a rapper played out and being a hoop star is just too far, few and in between.

Once black men find that new hustle (whatever it is) we'll be back in positive graces. And everybody HARD on the black man's azzz will be trying to kiss it again.

These types of programs aren't produced for us, but for those outside the Black community.   I haven't watched any of the CNN special but find the fact that its getting so much attention from us disturbing.

What is disturbing isn't the idea of facing our problems, its the idea that a media/culture that doesn't understand nor care about the complexity of daily live is now framing how we discuss the situation.  That is never good.
